January 2023. Share and Tell Evening.

The first club night of 2023 was a members evening.

The evening started with a short Extraordinary General Meeting to ratify the club constitution. The Constitution is now available in the members section of the website.

The main event of the evening was with five members of the club sharing presentations of their photography.

Phil Drayton was the first member to present his images. Phil shared an extremely interesting selection of macro images of mini beasts accompanied by technical explanation of how he had captured the images.

Images included spiders, frogs, ants, grasshoppers, bees and beetles. Many taken within Phil’s garden. The images gave members insight into the lives of the tiny creatures living around us, which could easily be overlooked as great subjects for macro photography.

Our second photographer of the evening was Suzy Bray. Suzy is a newer member of the club. She wished to share a range of her photographic interests, which includes landscape, industrial heritage within the landscape, abstract and the intimate landscape and mono photography.

After a short coffee break there were three further presentations.

Bill Pickard shared his first ever audio visual presentation. Bill explained the background to making the audio visual presentation about Roa Island a village on the Cumbrian Coast. The presentation accompanied by music included a variety of images taken around Roa Island including land and seascapes, wildlife and sporting images.

Russell Millner share a selection of images from an elephant safari in Africa. Russell discussed the environmental dangers these magnificent animals are subject too and their risk of extinction. His images included intimate portraits of the elephants in their habitat alongside images of elephants’ interactions with humans.

Out fifth contributor of the evening, Dave Nelson, shared a collection of aviation images, taken in Cumbria. Dave provided information on the flight paths of low flying aircraft through the Lake District National Park. He shared the best locations for capturing images and informed the group of the types of aircraft that most often fly over Cumbria.

A massive thank you to Dave , Russell, Bill, Suzy and Phil for their hard work.

Members enjoyed the evening. It was wonderful to see the photography pursued by members and not just the single images we see in regular competitions.

The evening will have provided inspiration for members to pursue their own photographic projects.

Next week we have Linda Bembridge, who will be giving her talk entitled “Abstract with a bit of Landscape”.

Please join via Zoom or at the hall in Castle Street. Details available on the membership page.
