Minimalistic photography is defined as extreme, austere simplicity. It emphasizes sparseness and focuses solely on the smallest number of objects in the composition.
The 9th November saw a Minimalist PDI Competition night judged by Caroline Preece. Caroline gave great advice and constructive comments on the images shared. There was a varied selection of images presented in both the Club and Advanced Sections.
In the Club Mono Section, Cathy Cash took the top sport with ‘Spring Time’ followed by Derek Mackie achieving 19 points with his image ‘Lapwing’.

In the Club Colour Section. Cathy and Derek again were leading the group, both receiving the maximum score of 20 points for their images ‘Stairway to Heaven’ and ‘Raindrops’. Derek’s image ‘Raindrops’ was given first place.
19 points were awarded to Martin Rowe for his image ‘Fallen Leaf’ and Elaine Elrick for her image ‘Sea View’.

Moving to the Advance Mono Section, the winning image was ‘Grass’ by Suzy Braye

Gavin Lowe also had a great night achieving a maximum score of 40 for his two mono images, ‘Cliff Diver’ and ‘Into the Light’.

Finally we have the Advanced Colour Results with ‘Pateley Bridge’ by Ann Dallaway achieving 20 points and first place. ‘Lavender’ by Peter Kennedy also achieved a maximum score of 20 points.

‘Tidal Jetty Marker’ by Maureen Smith and ‘Homeward Bound’ by Bill Pickard achieved 19 points.

Thanks to all members who shared their great images and to Caroline for her encouraging words and advice.
The meeting next week will feature Richard O’Brien giving his zoom talk entitled “History Re-Coloured”.
Richard will be giving a demonstration of repairing, retouching and recolouring techniques for historical photographs using Adobe Photoshop and Photoshop Elements.
