Open PDI Competition 19th October 2022

The first PDI competition of the 22-23 season was well attended via Zoom and at Castle Street Hall. After initial difficulties, due to a lack of an internet connection at the venue, the evening started on time and was a success thanks to the power of phone mobile data.

Dennis Russ was the judge for the evening sharing his enjoyment of members images and giving his constructive advice.

An open competition night always draws a wide variety of images including wildlife portrait, architecture, street photography, abstract pattern and macro. Members shared a selection of wonderful images, however, a competition always means winners.

In the club mono this was Derek Mackie with his image ‘Duchess of Sutherland’ with Martin Rowe achieving second place with his image ‘Under the Sycamore’.

In the club colour section Ann Bench achieved first place with her image ‘Sunset at the Pier’ scoring 20 points. Elaine Elrick achieved 19 points and second place with her images ‘Gig’ and ‘Observed’.

The advance colour was a clean sweep for Gordon Mill achieving 20 points for his two images ‘Great Egret and Frog’ and ‘Little Egret Feeding’. Egrets were a favourite of the night with Bill Pickard also achieving 20 for his ‘Great White Egret’ image.

The Advanced Mono saw Kim Rigg achieve first place with her image ‘The Butter Market’. Gordon Mills also achieved 20 points with ‘River Brathay’.

Thanks to all members who shared their images on the night.

Next week we have a talk by Daniel Bridges who shares his love of woodland photography.

Members are also reminded that PDIs for our November PDI Competition, theme , Minimalism should be submitted to the PDI Competition Secretary by 26th October.
